The Long Way

I have always been afraid of getting lost, one might find that hard to believe about me, but I like the well beaten path, the predictable route.

I believe in having a plan, sometimes that is the only way I can get from point A to point B, given the frenzied brain syndrome I have battled all my life.  I believe in the old "one step at a time" advice for gittin' there.  My maps have served me well.

So....how did I end up here?

Here's what I think.  You can take all the detours you can find, but if there is a life lesson you need to experience,  it will find you.

It will amaze you...it will teach you...and you will grow.
Thank you Miss Universe for draggin' me down the side roads and gettin' me back on the discovery trail.

Focus Pocus - Poof Be gone

I am easily distracted...and lately, that seems to be a good thing.  I think if I actually sat down and thought about all that's goin' on, I'd be plum crazy.

For me, solutions are nothin' but glorified "quick fixes" that seem to magically appear when I need one.

Until then, what you see is all smoke and mirrors.

We are family..

Remind yourself, not to spend too much time trying to figure out the puzzle that is "Family" as there will always be a piece missing, perhaps a piece you never knew existed.

Back Burner

The back burner is a dangerous place to set stuff, mostly cause things back there have a tendency to simmer way too long.

While they may not actually boil over, they can cook down and make an awful mess that's still gotta be cleaned up.

The Map

Years ago, I stumbled upon the art and inspiration of Jan Richardson (http://janrichardson.com/)
Like so many things in life, she got misplaced when I moved from one office to another, from one computer to another.  I may have lost my "book marks" but I never forgot her imagery.  Out of the blue...or rather cyber skies I received an invitation to "Like" her Facebook Page, Art+Faith. What a joy to have found her again.  As I read through her verses...it was as if it hadn't been 15 years since the last time.  Thank you for today's sweet inspiration.

The Map You Make Yourself

You have looked
at so many doors
with longing,
wondering if your life
lay on the other side.

For today,
choose the door
that opens
to the inside.

Travel the most ancient way
of all:
the path that leads you
to the center
of your life.

No map
but the one
you make yourself.

No provision
but what you already carry
and the grace that comes
to those who walk
the pilgrim’s way.

Speak this blessing
as you set out
and watch how
your rhythm slows,
the cadence of the road
drawing you into the pace
that is your own.

Eat when hungry.
Rest when tired.

Listen to your dreaming.
Welcome detours
as doors deeper in.

Pray for protection.
Ask for the guidance you need.

Offer gladness
for the gifts that come
and then
let them go.

Do not expect
to return
by the same road.

Home is always
by another way
and you will know it
not by the light
that waits for you
but by the star
that blazes inside you
telling you
where you are
is holy
and you are welcome
here.- Jan L. Richardson
